FEMA Declared Disaster in California

 

On August 22, 2020, FEMA announced a Major Disaster Declaration pertaining to fires in California, with an incident date of August 14, 2020. No incident end date has been declared at this time.

 

New Topics

 

This announcement addresses an update to FHA and USDA lending, adds a new county (Butte) to the declared disaster and opens up purchases in the remaining counties. Please see details below.

 

Announcements related to this disaster:

 

  • Announcement 2020-065 was released on August 26, stating that purchases would be paused in the FEMA declared counties
  • Announcement 2020-073 was released on September 2, opening up purchases in certain zip codes for Conventional and VA products
  • Announcement 2020-076 was released on September 10, opening up lending for FHA and USDA products

 

Butte County

 

On September 13, FEMA added Butte County to the currently declared disaster. Effective immediately, NewRez is pausing the purchase of loans in certain zip codes in Butte County, which has been identified and designated for Individual Assistance from FEMA.

 

The following table lists the zip codes currently ineligible for purchase for all products. All other zip codes remain eligible.

 

Please note that FHA and USDA will require an inspection or appraisal in the zip codes eligible for purchase in accordance with Chapter 15, Disaster Policy, as applicable.

As with all disasters, the affected areas are not definitively confirmed until FEMA formally designates such areas, which occurs following the completion of the incident and an assessment of the damage.
